In contrast, Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony (arranged from the 8th string quartet by Rudolf Barshai) is a darkly tragic work. The Pro Musica Orchestra is a contemporary reincarnation of one of Thailand’s first chamber music groups. The Orchestra began in 1958 as a string quartet and grew into a chamber orchestra performing regularly until 1975 when it morphed into the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra was recently revived with support from Siam Commerical Bank, Crown Property Bureau Foundation and SCG foundation. Pro Musica orchestra has performed internationally in many ASEAN countries, Japan, Korea, London, the Hague, Brussels and Berlin.
